Needing Prayer
Read Romans 15:14 through 16:27
Paul walked closely with God, was used mightily in the ministry, was the apostle designated to bring the gospel to the Gentiles, and was instrumental in beginning many churches. Why would he need the prayers of the Christians in Rome? Certainly God heard and answered Paul’s own prayers, yet Paul needed the encouragement of knowing others were praying for him. He urged the church at Rome, “Join me in my struggle by praying to God for me” (Romans 15:30).
Often in grave danger, he knew the importance of having fellow believers praying for personal and ministry needs. He didn’t ask for vague blessings. He specifically wanted prayer for deliverance from unbelievers, and for effective ministry, needs common to ministers still today.
Today’s Christian leaders need our fervent prayers. No matter how self-sufficient they may appear, they covet your prayers for their personal and ministry needs. Your prayer may be the means God uses to strengthen and refresh them for their ministry.
Challenge for Today: Ask a pastor or teacher how you can pray specifically for them, write down their requests, and then pray faithfully for them.
